History of Chechen State University
The Chechen State University, formerly known as Grozny University is located in Grozny, Chechnya, Russia. The foundation of this university was laid in 1938. On 07th February, 1938 the Chechen-Ingush Teaching Institute started their exciting venture. Their teachings were based on the preparatory pedagogical courses with a two-year study period. Soon this institute was reformed into Chechen-Ingush State Pedagogical Institute (ChISPI) on 01 September, 1938. The institute offered their teachings in four faculties named Philology, History, Physics, and Maths over a four-year study period. The first batch of graduates from this institute were a total of 79 students.
After this there was no looking back for ChISPI, as the institute started offering teaching in 8 departments by the year of 1940. These were Physics, Maths, Pedagogy and Psychology, Languages, Marxism and Leninism, General History and History of the USSR People. The pre-war period for ChISPI was a time when they planned and organised the core structure and curriculum that they wanted to follow. The increasing number of students at a uniform pace gave them the confidence to establish strong grounds in the scientific community. The university had gained recognition by the year 1958. Their faculties were producing secondary school teachers in 19 different specializations, including teachers of their mother tongue and literature. The number of students that were a little more than 1000 in 1956, subsequently rose to 3218 by the year 1962. This number changed to 4750 by 1963.
It was through their spirit and dedication that helped them become the 56th university in the USSR. It was in 1972 that the Chechen-Ingush State Pedagogical Institute was reformed into Chechen-Ingush State University (ChISU). With the establishment of ChISU new study campuses, accommodation buildings, new faculties and departments were opened. In the second half of the 80s the highly regarded specialisms’ like drama, general medicine, law, journalism, etc., were introduced. The period of 1994 to 2000 was a tough one for the university. Two Chechen military campaigns caused severe damage to the university. It was after April, 2000 that the university started re-construction. The university restored their pre-war assets and is achieving new milestones ever since.
The Chechen State University is located in Grozny. Grozny is the capital of the Chechnya republic. It is on the banks of the Sunzha River and on the tributary of the Terek River.
