History of AIIMS Patna

The foundation of this institute was laid on 3 January 2004 by Mr Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, the then vice-president of Patna. However, it was only on 25 September 2012 that AIIMS Patna started its operation after several consecutive observations by the Patna High Court.

This medical institute is situated 8km away from the town of Patna. Divided into two different segments, Main Medical College and Residential Area, the campus of this institute is spread across 134 acres.

  • Full-time Bachelor of Medicine/ Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) with five years duration.
  • Full-time Bachelor of Science (B.SC Hons.) with four years duration.
  • Full-time Doctorate of Medicine (MD) for three years.

Fee Structure

One of the attractive aspects of AIIMS centers is the less fee structure for the qualitative education system. The fee structure varies from course to course. Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS):

For this stream, the tuition fee for every semester is fixed at Rs.1350. However, with the inclusion of additional expenses, you’d have to pay a total amount of Rs.7640.

  • Bachelor of Science (B.SC Hons.):

For this course, every semester tuition fee is Rs.600. However, for the entire course, you’d have to pay Rs.6365 inclusive of the additional costs.

  • Doctorate of Medicine:

Lastly, this course comes with a semester tuition fee of Rs.702. But, the grand total will be Rs.5831 with extra charges.

Furthermore, in case you plan to stay in the hostel, the annual rent would be Rs. 990. However, if you’re taking up additional facilities, like Gym, Security, Pot Fund, and more, you’d have to shed anywhere from Rs.2703 to Rs.4203 every year.

Admission Process

According to the initiatives taken by the Director of AIIMS, New Delhi, a decision was made to conduct a competitive Entrance Exam of MBBS via a Computer-Based Test (CBT). Thus, now, all the students would have to appear for the CBT Online Entrance Exam, conducted by AIIMS, New Delhi to get admission. This can be done after you’ve submitted the AIIMS application form online.

The institute arranges and conducts different AIIMS medical entrance exam for every available course. Based on the marks that you secure, you get to move towards Stage 1, which is a written test of 90 minutes containing 70 Multiple Choice Questions.

Once you’ve cleared that, you’ll then have to appear for an interview in front of the Selection Committee. Your performance in the interview will be your deciding factor for admission into AIIMS Patna.

Age Criteria

If you’re considering to get an admission in any of the under graduation courses available at All India Medical Science, Patna, the minimum age limit is 17 years or above. On the other hand, there are no age restrictions for those who wish to get enrolled in a post-graduation course.

Eligibility Criteria for UG Courses:

  • For those belonging to the general category, the minimum requirement is of 50% in 10+2 with Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and English.
  • If you belong to the OBC category, you must score at least 45% with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in 10+2.
  • And, for those belonging to SC/ST, the requirement is of 45%.

Eligibility Criteria for PG Courses:

  • The candidate must have an MBBS degree from any of the universities recognized by the State Medical Council or the Medical Council of India.
  • The candidate, belonging to the general category, must have 55% marks in the entrance exam.
  • And, those who have SC/ST backgrounds should score 50% in the qualifying exam.

Documents Required

Once you’ve cleared the AIIMS medical entrance exam, you’ll have to carry these documents at the time of reporting:

  • AIIMS MBBS admit card
  • Call letter by AIIMS
  • Class XII-mark sheet
  • Date of birth proof
  • Category certificate (if available)
  • Migration certificate
  • Set of self-attested copies of all the certificates
  • Six passports sized photographs

For PG Candidates

You’ll have to carry original copies of:

  • MBBS certificate
  • MBBS 3rd part II-mark sheet
  • Internship completion certificate
  • Medical registration certificate
  • Picture identity proof in certificate form along with an attested photo
  • Copy of birth certificate
  • Sponsorship certificate from state government (if available)
  • Copy of online counseling registration certificate
  • Eight passport sized photographs

Life at AIIMS Patna

AIIMS Patna boasts of having state-of-the-art facilities not just for patients but students as well. With completely functioning clinical areas, you can ensure being a step ahead in every possible aspect.

Here, the authorities conduct an annual festival, known as Kaizen, which is a three-day cultural and annual event of the institute. Several famous singers are known to perform live in this event. The AIIMS Patna has its own cricket team conducting matches on Kaizen day. Apart from cricket, the institute also has its own volleyball and football teams.
