“Escola Medico Cirurgica da Goa” renamed as Goa Medical College (GMC) was established in 1842 under the rule of the Portuguese. The Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behavior (Bambolim) the TB and Chest Disease Hospital (St. Inez), The Rural Health and Training Centre (Mandur) and the Urban Health Centre (St. Cruz) form part of this college.

GMC initially operated from Panaji and Ribandar, gradually shifted to Bambolim in the year 1991. The entire complex at Goa Medical College, Bambolim is spread over an area of 11,34,798 Sq. Mts. The college has been affiliated to the Goa University. This government institute offers both graduate and post graduate courses which include MBBS, M.D., Diploma, M.S., B.Sc., B.O.T. Bachelor of Optometry, B.P.T. etc. All the hospitals mentioned above, along with the medical college are enclosed in one campus which provides a perfect opportunity for exceptional medical education and training.

The teaching faculty is extremely talented and highly skilled. The college is uniquely distinguished by its notable education system, teaching and non-teaching staff, research & developments. The campus has well-furnished classrooms & have wi-fi facility. Separate accommodation is available for girls and boys. There are two different hostels provided for undergraduate and postgraduate students. All the modern facilities including medical aid, auditoriums, transport, IT Labs, sports and cafeteria are all available in the college.

GMC provide rooms for patient’s relatives along with direct access to the pharmacy as well. Diagnostic services are sometimes handled by students during their internship in their Central Laboratory, Microbiology Laboratory, Pathology Laboratory and Biochemistry Laboratory. Other services include Voluntary HIV testing and counselling at ICTC center inside campus. Also, DOTS center is available for sputum examination for Tuberculosis & malaria.

Ragging & Harassment is strictly prohibited in the campus and strict actions are taken by the authority against the students who are found guilty. The medium of training used by instructors for the MBBS program at GMC is English. Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is offered as a 4.6 year course and an additional year of internship under graduate courses. Their student intake is approximately 100 annually.

Admission process and requirements

Below are the criteria to get admission into GMC, Panaji:

  • High school senior secondary exam or (10+2) by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) or any equivalent exam conducted by any state board.
  • Must have secured minimum of 50% Aggregate marks in PCB/Biotech combined.
  • Must apply to the college only through NEET UG Medical Scoreboard.
  • Must have completed 17 years at the time of admission or will complete that age on or before 31st December of the year of his/her admission to the first year of either MBBS or BDS course
  • Candidate must have graduation and bachelor’s degree in medicine (MBBS) for post-graduation courses.

The eligible candidates should fill in the application form of the university along with the following documents:
